Membership

To renew your annual membership or to become a new member of the Helena Mineral Society read the Duties of Members document and print and fill out the Membership Application.

DUTIES OF MEMBERS

(a) Member will endeavor to attend each meeting of the Helena Mineral Society, Inc., to abide by the majority vote of the members and the decisions of the Board of Directors, as expressed in Article III of the Articles of Incorporation.

(b) Member will not present themselves as acting in any capacity for the Helena Mineral Society, Inc., unless expressly authorized to do so.
(c) Member on any Helena Mineral Society, Inc., claim will have on their person a current membership card and will display upon request.
(d) Individual and Family Membership may be accompanied by their immediate family guests and no more than one (1) non-family guest while digging on the Helena Mineral Society, Inc., claims. The Helena Mineral Society, Inc., claims presently consist of: The sapphire claims (The Miss Beverly #1, Miss Beverly #2, and Blue Star) and the Crystal claim. Exceptions to this shall be approved by the Board of Directors in advance.
(e) Member and Member Family are held responsible for their own and their guest behaviors and actions. Sections (f – j) will refer to the Member and their Guest as ‘Members’.
(f) Members will observe and respect all Federal and State laws when entering federal or state lands to collect specimens. Members are also prohibited to enter private property to collect specimens without the expressed permission of the property owner.
(g) Members are prohibited from digging on any of the Helena Mineral Society, Inc., claims more than two (2) consecutive days, and no more than a total of seven (7) days on any one claim during the calendar year. A “day” is herein defined as period between sunrise and ending at sunset, or any portion thereof. No prospecting between the hours of sunset to sunrise. Members will not “undercut” or “tunnel” in excess of one-foot from the vertical face while recovering minerals or specimens on any Helena Mineral Society, Inc., claim or property. The use of any artificial light is prohibited. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire on the Helena Mineral Society, Inc., claims is strictly prohibited. All motor driven equipment is strictly prohibited with the exception being for approved remediation and maintenance only.
(h) Members are not permitted to sell any gem, mineral or specimens found on any Helena Mineral Society, Inc., claim in any commercial manner.
(i) Use of any drugs and alcohol are strictly prohibited at all club functions as well as on all Helena Mineral Society, Inc. claims.
(j) Members participation in any trips, workshops, meetings and other activities could involve risk of physical injury, illness, property loss or death. Despite safety precautions, Helena Mineral Society, Inc and venues used cannot guarantee safety thereof, as all risks cannot be prevented. Furthermore, member owned vehicles, or members as passengers in another’s members private vehicle in connection with trips/functions, Helena Mineral Society nor owner of private vehicle the members are passengers in, will not be responsible for assuring the safety and reliability of such private transportation or driver. Therefore, you hereby release, indemnify and hold harmless Helena Mineral Society, Inc, officers, volunteers, members and all venues from all forms and manners of risks inherent in, and from all claims, suits and demands of any nature arising from participation in said trip or activities.
(k) These duties can and shall be updated as needed, as stated in the By-Laws Article X.

Violations of these Duties and Rules will be reviewed by the Board of Directors. Such violations will be cause for the loss of membership and/or further legal actions taken by the Helena Mineral Society, Inc.

Single membership

$17.00 annually

Family membership

$25.00 annually

Dues should be paid before May 1 of each year. Once your application and check are received a membership card will be mailed to you.
